A. No, The Signtel Interpreter is very user friendly all buttons
are labeled, HELP is on screen, along with a PDF Quick reference guide, and a complete Manual inside the program in PDF.
Q.Which speech recognition program does the Signtel Interpreter use? A. The Signtel Interpreter, has incorporated Philips Speech Recognition as a base,
adding our own proprietary modules into the program. This state of the art recognition engine gives excellent results.
Q. Is there any setup required? A. Aside from training speech recognition, and Adding yourself as a user
there is no setup needed. Q.
Does the Signtel Interpreter sign ASL? A. No, this first
version is signed English, however we have a feature that ASL users enjoy that changes the form of the text, so that it is
better than just signed English but is not ASL. EXAMPLE: The sentence " I go to the store to buy food" will sign as "I
go store buy food". Q. Who built and designed
the dictionary engine that does the actual language translation? A.
The Signtel Interpreter and the dictionary program was designed by our Research & Development Department, that included
over 100 deaf employees of SignTel, Inc. in over 26 different states. Q.
Can I learn Sign Language from the Signtel Interpreter? A.
Yes, you can use the on screen signing dictionary to learn individual signs or use the other features for more advanced learning. Q. Can I use the Signtel Interpreter instead of an Interpreter? A. This program is not intended to replace a sign language Interpreter, but may
be helpful when an interpreter is not available. Q.
Can I change the background color of the video box? A.
Unfortunately, this is not possible with the current version of the software. Q. When using speech recognition how long of a wait before the program signs
my words? A. The Signtel Interpreter will recognize your
speech and translate it into Sign almost instantaneously. Q.
How long does it take to train the speech recognition to learn my voice? A. Training time is approximately two hours. Although a high accuracy level can be achieved in
less time. We have found the voice recognition training function to have a cumulative effect in regards to accuracy.
